Canada jobless less than expected

Canada saw fewer job losses than expected in June, but the unemployment rate hit an 11-year high, data shows.
The number of job losses for the month was 7,400, after falling 42,000 in May. Analysts expected a fall of 35,000.
While the figure pushed the rate of unemployment up from 8.4% to 8.6%, this was also less than forecast.
The government said employment remained will below its October 2008 peak, but noted a shift in the pace of the downward trend in the second quarter.
Net job losses for the three months to the end of June was 13,000, after falling 273,000 in the first three months of the year.
However, while 47,500 full time jobs were lost last month, around 40,100 part-time positions were added.
"The job report is more good news than bad, but it would have been much better had the jobs been full-time" said Dale Orr, an economist and private consultant.
Figures recently showed Canada's economy shrank by 5.4% on an annualised basis during the first quarter after the economy shrank by 3.7% in the last quarter of 2008.
Despite being the worst result for 18 years, it was better than expected.

Summary
Nowadays, more and more people have lost their jobs.In the last few month,Canada’s unemployment rate has risen to an 11-year high ,about8.5%,but this was less than expected.Although I think it is good, how can we solve this issue?Personally,I think we can learn from Roosevelt' s New Deal.We should increase the number of employment opportunities .If we did that, it should decrease joblessness.

  1. Hi Wendy,

Is this your assessed blog for this week?? You were supposed to do a new one for the Friday blog, although I like the way you added the last sentence to use the second conditional for your solution. That sounds really good.

You summarize the main points of the article well, but it is too short and you didn't mention anything about part-time and full-time jobs. More importantly, you didn't mention WHY you chose this article and why it's in the news. Also, you didn't use any quotes from the article with words like 'mentions', 'states', 'highlights' etc. This is a little disappointing Wendy, especially after your work has been so good on the course so far. I hope you are going to keep your energy and hard work up. You are a great student, but you need to put in maximum effort to achieve your goals this term. Don't forget that!

Language-wise, some very nice things (use of present perfect at the beginning, 'although', 'solve this issue', 'personally' etc). Just a couple of things to check:

    - 'IN THE last few months'

    - 'but THIS WAS less than expected'

    - 'how CAN WE solve this issue?'

    - 'Personally, I THINK...'

    - 'We should increase THE NUMBER OF employment opportunities'

Overall, not as good as your usual standard. I am expecting better from you next week Wendy.
